David Sims, LMHCA (He/Him)

ASSOCIATE CLINICIAN

David is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and works with a wide variety of clients including children, teens, and adults. David enjoys working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and has a particular passion for working with youth and young people of color.  As a Black man who grew up in predominantly white communities, racial identity was a large part of David’s youth experience, and he enjoys engaging with youth of color in the exploration and ongoing development of their own racial identities.

David integrates several different modalities into the therapy process based on the needs of his clients. He largely utilizes Person-Centered therapy, Reality/Choice therapy, and Child-Centered Play Therapy.

Within the influence of Person-Centered therapy, he believes that you as the client are the expert in your own life. As your counselor, David is not here to direct you, fix you, or tell you what to do. His role is to listen to you with compassion and grace, and work collaboratively with you on your goals and confronting the current challenges in your life.

The empowering traits of Reality/Choice therapy offers David the opportunity to work with his clients on understanding their point of view within their current life and utilizing this lens to make active changes, plans, and goals for the future.

When working with youth clients, David employs Child-Centered Play Therapy techniques to let his youth clients guide their stories and express themselves through the healing power of play. Within this David utilizes sandtray therapy, mindfulness techniques, and open narrative play opportunities.
